Yes… for some time (check the video below). BBC News is following a shipping container for a year to study globalization. It is currently in Japan.

According to Wikipedia,

containerization (or containerisation) is a system of intermodal freight transport using standard intermodal containers that are standardised by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These can be loaded and sealed intact onto container ships, railroad cars, planes, and trucks.

Although having its origins in the late 1780s or earlier, the global standardisation of containers and container handling equipment was one of the important innovations in 20th century logistics.

Why blogging this? mobility shapes spaces, objects, perceptions and behaviors. In Mumbai when the climate is warm and humid, commuters place their face nearest to the open door of a moving train (You see… with the speed of the train the breeze is refreshing). You can think also about other examples: The spaceship shows how extreme mobility yields particular design: In that case, salt and pepper need to be packaged in a liquid form otherwise too dangerous as grains can nest in interstices — obstruct conducts. The container is another architectural typology brought about by mobility.
