So if the ne-nomad can use surveillance and be mobile, can the “STATE” also do the same?

Further, because the state is always co-opting the methodologies of the nomad (D & G) does the realization of the neo-nomad introduce new problems for those that live between the “nomad” and the “state”?

Can the technology of the nomad and the activities of the nomad be understood separately?

Old girl, new tricks: I watch through the stream because, though I am available, I cannot be there. I tell him to turn up the volume, I can now hear better. Should I ask to zoom in? Should I be able to send comments/questions when she is done? How does she know who she is talking to?

    Thanks Yaz!

That was great - yes, I was still there at the end… Sorry to miss the beginning (maybe that’s where I would have known that my comments would be posted?)

There are so many intriguing thoughts, and I do agree that this is not a “threatening” or “controlling” idea, though I could not exactly hear the audience’s comments. However, it is certainly a real experience for many people, as David and I continue on our neo-nomad path:

Who do we pay to exist where we sit? I cannot occupy more than one space at a time. How many spaces on this earth are reserved for just me? How do I pay for them?

-My bedroom in Somerville (rent to landlord)
-Somerville backyard for motorcycles (rent to landlord)
-David’s desk at GSD (tuition to Harvard)
-my locker at GSD for my gym shoes (tuition to Harvard)
-refrigerator in MDes room for food (tuition to Harvard)
-my basement in Pittsburgh for “house stuff” (mortgage to bank)
-friend’s parking lot for our van (use of van to friend)
-friend’s warehouse for our cars (architectural services to friend)
-friend’s garage and apartment for two motorcycles and television (use of said equipment)
-friend’s backyard for our Airstream (case of beer to friend)
-Dad’s garage for office furniture (grateful daughter)
-Friend’s home office for office chairs (use of chairs)

When I travel, I continue to “pay” for all of these things, plus:
    -Hotel room
    -car rental
    -airfare
    -restaurant “meals”
All of which allow me to “sit” in them for a period of time. What is the difference between renting and owning in this case? What is the relationship between earning money, and sustaining a livelihood? How sustainable is the neo-nomad? What waste does this create? (I tuned in around that point of the presentation…)

If I “rent” spaces in my neo-nomad lifestyle, what kind of control do I have as a user of architecture? Does architecture become a “product” that I “shop” for when selecting a W hotel over a Ramada Inn? A local café with free wireless over a Starbucks with a better tea selection? Am I selecting architecture, services, or a product?

    etc., etc., etc., etc…

Thank you all for your comments and being there even remotely! Becca… I should take you out for “for here or to go” cup of coffee ;)… You bring an interesting point here: paying for storage spaces when you are not there?! And the danger is that architecture becomes a product: in fact I prefere thinking that architecture becomes something malleable, resilient. There is so much material to cover, and the enquiry will certainly not end here! There are much implications and areas to investigate… and the State has not yet figure it out how to deal with mobility. The first answer is it seems to increase surveillance… We did not like nomads, but we want to be! Laurent :) :) nice to hear from you! Keep in touch…
